Human Factors, Just Culture and Psychological Safety in Critical Operations

In critical operations, people are often the most decisive factor. The way professionals collaborate, communicate, and make decisions under pressure directly influences the safety and reliability of complex processes.

  • Psychological safety

Psychological safety ensures that, as a manager, you know what is happening on the work floor and that professionals report issues without fear of repercussions.

  • Just Culture

Just Culture means learning from mistakes and incidents, but also — and especially — from the things that go well.

  • Human Factors

Human Factors focuses on understanding and optimising human behaviour in demanding environments, enabling teams to perform better and reducing risks.

Whether in aviation, healthcare, energy, industry, or any other critical sector — we guide organisations toward a future in which mistakes are not hidden, but provide valuable insights for sustainable improvement.

  • s7 airlines1Yes Human Factors has delivered and executed a great Management Development program for us. In addition to this program, Yes provided a day of crisis management training (for all employees) using a Boeing 737-NG Flight Simulator. All this based on the lessons learned from (military) aviation. Shared situation awareness is essential, the reality of one is not always the reality of the other or conform with the real reality. Just Culture, effective communication, collaboration and asking questions are the key to success.

  • iconopen2What appeals to me in the working method of YES Human Factors is that they do not have an instrumental training philosophy, but actually initiate development and change by making the journey of discovery together. Because of this approach, an investment in time in the beginning of the project has a practical effect at a later moment. We now see initiatives being developed by the collegues in the Operating Room and changes last because of the created intrinsic motivation. Because of their training, a critical situation of a patient ended well, and afterwards this situation was discussed among colleagues without any form of Shame or Blame. I am very positive about how Han and JP provide this training for us; open minded and with humor! Well Recommended!

  • s7 airlines1The quality of crew resource management training by Yes Human Factors was well according EASA standards and their training raised the safety c ulture of the company. Coordination with the trainers was excellent. The trainers are very flexible and able to change the course content due to our additional demands. A lot of interactive games were used in combination with a number of useful exercises. The courses were highly appreciated by all participants.

Creativity is often underestimated when it comes to safety

'As a change manager, I have seen that change can be a creative process. Change requires a lot from organizations and their employees. Especially when many old patterns have grown into common habits/behavior. An appropriate change-management strategy in which the involvement of professionals plays an important role helps to achieve desired results.

I like to use my experience with management & change to support organizations in order to become more flexible, efficient and effective.'

Training is an essential part within the business process to create effective leadership

'As a former F16 pilot and captain of the Boeing 747 and manager of 130 people or more, I know how important it is to embed safety training in a business process. From my time as F-16 pilot/Operations-Officer I know that certain processes have to be practiced many times to get locked into your system. This saves time, money and lives.

I now share my knowledge about safety & organizations with other professionals with great pleasure.'
